Hi I'm Rich, and I run Sapien Training.
I'm a Trainer, Strength Coach, Climber & Calisthenics nerd from Brighton, UK.
I'm passionate about exploring and developing human movement, and restoring our primal levels of physical strength & capability.
My training ethos is heavily influenced by our evolutionary history.
I believe wholeheartedly that our modern western lifestyle isn't reflecting our primal instincts to move, and we are suffering ill health and poor mobility as a result.
Natural movement is all but eliminated from society. Our modern movement patterns are limited, and our perspective of fitness and strength has become warped to the meagre expectations of the fitness industry.
We need a natural movement revolution, one that harnesses our inner strength & movement potential, and facilitates a reconnection with nature, and natural movement.
BSc (Hons) Sport, Health and Physical Education (Exercise Physiology; Kinesiology & Biomechanics; Exercise Rehabilitation; Sports Nutrition; Coaching)
REPS Registered Level 3 Personal Trainer
BTEC National Diploma; Community Sports Leader Award; Basic Expedition Leader Award; Climbing Wall Instructor
Several industry specific qualifications (Boxing Coaching, Kettlebell & Suspension Training, Exercise with Children/Older Adults, Indoor Cycling)
My career didn't follow the typical industry pathways, I started working out of referral clinics & specialist gyms after graduating with a degree in Sports Physiology in 2007.
I got into specialist exercise by teaming up with local health clinics to deliver 1:1 coaching to people suffering with neurological conditions, and by delivering obesity management programmes tackling the growing health crisis.
After developing and running my own business & facility (Sapien Training) for 5 years, I moved to Brighton to pursue a new career trajectory, and now coach out of Wickwoods Country Club.

SPECIAL POPULATIONS TRAINING & REHABILITATION
A long career and a love of climbing has led Rich to the top of several notable peaks; bagging summits in China, Vietnam, Korea, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and of course the UK.
Rich completed the 14 peaks challenge for BHF, abseiled the Spinnaker for Cerebral Palsy, and organises small group trips up Mt Snowdon and other UK summits.
Muay Thai & Boxing helped shape his passions for complex physical disciplines, honed after spending time out in Thailand working on his Muay Thai and working with the trainers out there.
And for a brief period in time, he was the youngest person alive, however this was apparently short lived and unverified.
